However, Gavin Bardon is right, VoIP technology has been around for a while now and while uptake has been good, it could be better. One of the major issues is that there is an uneven playing field in the UK market where BT is still acting like a monopoly. For one thing, the fact that BT forces consumers into paying for voice and data services bundles hinders competition. Vonage is actively campaigning to Ofcom and the European Commission to force BT to allow customers to pay for data only line rental (Naked DSL) so that VoIP services like Vonage can compete more fairly and consumers get better deals. Anyone who agrees should sign up to campaigning consumer, Tom Blandford's No 10 Downing Street online petition http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Naked-DSL-Intnet/ (UK citizens only I'm afraid.)
